Garrett Nussmeier/ Senior Bowl
Mobile, Alabama – The American Team closed out a highly competitive week in Mobile, Alabama with a 17–9 victory over the National Team in the 77th annual Senior Bowl, capping off a week filled with high-level practices and strong individual performances that drew heavy attention from NFL scouts.
Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after delivering an efficient and poised performance. Nussmeier led the American Team to touchdowns on its first two possessions, immediately setting the tone. He completed 5 of 8 passes for 57 yards, added a rushing touchdown, and threw a two-point conversion to Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields. After a strong week of practices, Nussmeier’s command of the offense and ability to make plays in key moments carried over seamlessly to Saturday’s game.
On the defensive side, Missouri defensive lineman Young earned Defensive MVP honors with an impactful all-around performance. Young consistently disrupted the National Team’s offense, recovering a fumble, stuffing the run, and flashing his ability to generate pressure as a pass rusher. His physicality and motor stood out throughout the game, reinforcing the impressions he made during the practice week.
Despite the loss, the National Team had notable standouts of its own. Oregon linebacker Bryce Boettcher was a bright spot, finishing with a game-high 10 tackles. Boettcher’s instincts, range, and coverage ability were evident not only in the game but throughout the week of practices, where he consistently showed he could hold up in space against modern NFL concepts.
Intensity was a constant theme throughout the week in Mobile, and that edge carried directly into the game itself. From one-on-one drills to live action on Saturday, prospects competed with purpose, giving evaluators plenty to assess. As the Senior Bowl wraps up, NFL scouts and executives will leave Mobile with extensive film, notes, and evaluations that could shape draft boards in the months ahead. The 77th Senior Bowl once again delivered as a proving ground where preparation met opportunity and several players made the most of their moment on a national stage.
