Lithonia Hits The Ground in Full Pads, Eyes Another Deep Playoff Run

Lithonia, Georgia – The old rhythm of spring football used to be predictable. Helmets for a few days, then shoulder pads, and eventually easing into full contact. That gradual buildup gave players time to adjust, both mentally and physically, as programs prepared for the long road to the fall. But for some teams across Georgia, that approach is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

At Lithonia High School, the Bulldogs are wasting no time setting the tone for 2026. On Wednesday, Lithonia opened spring practice with an intensity that mirrored midseason form rather than early preparation. From competitive one-on-one drills to a full-speed scrimmage, the Bulldogs jumped straight into full pads, signaling a clear message: this is a program with urgency and expectations. The energy was high, the tempo was fast, and the physicality reflected a team determined to build on last year’s success.

Now entering his third season as head coach, Lithonia’s leader has continued to elevate the program with each passing year. His tenure has been defined by structure, discipline, and the ability to assemble a coaching staff that has made a significant impact. That foundation paid off last season when the Bulldogs finished 10-3 and made an impressive run to the GHSA Class 4A quarterfinals. Their postseason journey came to an end against Creekside, a team that would go on to capture the state championship, further validating just how competitive Lithonia had become.

As promising as last year was, this spring marks the beginning of a new chapter, particularly at the quarterback position. With the departure of former starter Jamon Coggins, the Bulldogs enter the offseason with an open competition under center. Three players are currently battling for the job, each looking to take command of an offense that showed explosiveness a season ago. While the quarterback situation remains unsettled, Lithonia will lean on experienced playmakers to provide stability. Veteran wide receiver Anthony Flourney is expected to be a key contributor, bringing leadership and proven production to the offense. His presence should offer a reliable target for whoever ultimately wins the starting role.

Beyond returning talent, the Bulldogs are also benefiting from an influx of new athletes transferring into the program. Combined with a strong core of returning players, the roster is shaping up to be one of the more dynamic groups in the region. If the first days of spring practice are any indication, Lithonia is not easing into anything, they’re accelerating. The expectations are clear: build on last year’s quarterfinal appearance and push even deeper into the postseason.

With intensity already at a high level and competition fueling improvement across the roster, the Bulldogs appear to be trending in the right direction. And if their early commitment to physical, high-tempo football continues, Lithonia could once again find itself among the top contenders in Georgia’s Class 4A landscape—this time with its sights set even higher.
