Illinois DE Gabe Jacobs/ Senior Bowl
Mobile, Alabama – It was a brisk day in Mobile, Alabama, but the energy on the field was anything but cold as practices officially opened for the 2026 Senior Bowl. With scouts, coaches, and executives from across the NFL in attendance, both the National and American teams wasted no time setting the tone. For a first practice, the intensity was notably high, offering an early glimpse into which prospects are ready to seize the moment.
National Team Standouts
For the National Team, the clear standout of the day was TJ Parker, who consistently disrupted the offensive line. Parker showed explosive get-off, strong hands, and relentless effort, making life difficult for blockers throughout the session. His ability to win one-on-one reps immediately put him on the radar as a defensive force to watch for the rest of the week.
On the offensive side of the ball, Caleb Douglas made his presence felt. Douglas showcased strong hands and impressive body control, hauling in several contested catches. His ability to win over multiple defenders highlighted his physicality and ball-tracking skills, traits that translate well to the next level.
American Team Makes Its Statement
The American Team also had its share of eye-catching performances. Malachi Fields continued to prove why he belongs in the conversation as one of the top wide receivers in the 2026 NFL Draft. Fields ran crisp, efficient routes, displayed strong hands in traffic, and showed his value as a red-zone threat. His overall polish and consistency stood out in a deep receiver group.
Defensively, Tim Keenan III was dominant along the interior. Keenan’s run-stopping ability was outstanding, as he consistently held his ground and disrupted plays at the line of scrimmage. Even more encouraging was his improvement as a pass rusher, showing better technique and push up the middle as practice progressed.
Quarterback Watch
One notable observation came from quarterback Diego Pavia. Pavia throws an excellent ball and shows strong arm talent, but he appeared uncomfortable taking snaps from under center. That discomfort led to multiple fumbles during practice, something NFL evaluators will certainly monitor as the week continues.
Competitive Tone Set
Overall, the opening practice made one thing clear: these players came to compete. With roster spots, draft stock, and NFL futures on the line, the urgency and effort were evident across the board. If Day One is any indication, the rest of the week promises high-level competition leading into Saturday’s Senior Bowl matchup.
The 2026 Senior Bowl will air live on NFL Network at 2:30 PM ET, where these prospects will have another opportunity to turn strong practices into lasting impressions.
