Olivia Dowd Sets New Standard For NC A&T With Historic Leap

In a moment that will be remembered for years to come, junior Olivia Dowd soared into the record books for North Carolina A&T State University, delivering a jaw-dropping performance in the triple jump that not only shattered the school record, but also secured her place among the NCAA’s elite.

At the NCAA East Preliminary meet in Jacksonville, Florida, Dowd launched herself 43 feet, 4½ inches setting a new personal best and smashing the NC A&T school record in the triple jump. More than just a number, her leap made her the first female triple jumper in school history to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.

For Dowd, this season has been a comeback story. After missing time during the 2024 season, she returned to the track with a point to prove. That fire led her to gradually climb the ranks all spring. Starting with a 38-foot mark in early meets, then surpassing 40 feet at the Aggie Invitational, and clinching a conference title at the CAA Championships with a 41’8” jump. But nothing compared to her record-setting leap at regionals. It wasn’t just the longest jump of her career, it was a statement. One that said she belonged on the national stage. “I’ve been visualizing this all season,” Dowd said after her performance. “To finally hit that mark and know I made history at A&T, it means everything.”
