Hampton, Georgia – The Lovejoy Wildcats are entering the 2026 season with a renewed sense of purpose, fresh leadership, and the belief that another successful campaign is within reach. After finishing 8-3 last season and once again proving to be one of the more competitive programs in Clayton County, the Wildcats now begin a new chapter following the departure of longtime head coach Edgar Carson. Taking over the program is Jabari Wilder, a familiar face who already understands the culture and expectations that come with coaching at Lovejoy.
Wilder is far from an outsider. He previously served as the Wildcats offensive coordinator during the 2022 season, where he helped engineer one of the program’s more productive offenses. His return brings both continuity and excitement as he looks to build upon the foundation already established while putting his own stamp on the program.
Joining Wilder on the offensive staff is new offensive coordinator Chaz Ferdinand, whose philosophy perfectly complements the new head coach’s vision. Ferdinand wants to establish the running game first, forcing defenses to respect the ground attack before attacking vertically with explosive plays down the field. It’s a balanced offensive approach that players have already embraced. During FanVerse Sports’ visit to Lovejoy’s Media Day, several Wildcats spoke enthusiastically about the new coaching staff and the changes being implemented. “He makes you think,” one player said when describing Coach Ferdinand’s approach. That statement reflects more than just learning a new playbook. It speaks to an offense designed to challenge players mentally while giving them the freedom to make plays within the system.
The optimism surrounding the program extends beyond the offensive side of the ball. Wilder has maintained and in many ways strengthened a winning mentality throughout the offseason. Players have bought into the culture, practices have carried a high level of intensity, and there is a noticeable confidence surrounding the team. That confidence will be tested early.
With the GHSA’s latest region realignment, Lovejoy faces one of its toughest schedules in recent memory. Every week presents another challenge, and there will be very few opportunities to coast through the regular season. The Wildcats, however, aren’t backing down. Conversations with players during Media Day revealed a team that welcomes the challenge rather than fears it. There is a belief inside the locker room that they have the talent, preparation, and mindset to compete with anyone on their schedule. That confidence isn’t unfounded.
Defensively, Georgia commit Gideon Taiwo headlines the Wildcats’ roster. One of the state’s premier edge rushers, Taiwo has established himself as a dominant force capable of changing games with his pass-rushing ability and physical presence. Entering his senior season, expectations are high for him to anchor a defense that hopes to be among the region’s best. Offensively, running back Aquil Beazer appears poised for a breakout campaign. Throughout the offseason, Beazer has displayed improved focus and determination while preparing to become one of the focal points of Lovejoy’s offense. His ability to consistently move the chains should fit perfectly within Ferdinand’s run-first philosophy.
At quarterback, Bryson Gibbs has continued to show growth throughout summer workouts. Teammates and coaches alike have praised his confidence, leadership, and command of the offense. As he becomes more comfortable in the new system, Gibbs could be the catalyst that allows Lovejoy’s offense to become both efficient and explosive.
The 2026 season will undoubtedly present obstacles, especially with a demanding schedule and a new era beginning on the sidelines. But if the energy surrounding the program throughout the offseason is any indication, the Lovejoy Wildcats believe they’re ready for the challenge. For Lovejoy, the goal hasn’t changed.
