Macon, Georgia – The final game of the week at the Georgia High School Association State Championship delivered exactly what fans hoped for, intensity, energy, and a battle between two elite programs. When it was all said and done, the Wheeler Wildcats once again proved why they remain one of the most dominant teams in Georgia high school basketball.

In front of two passionate fan bases, Wheeler pulled away late to defeat the Pebblebrook Falcons 62–52, securing another championship and continuing their remarkable run of success. From the opening tip, the atmosphere was electric. Both teams came out with energy, and the game quickly developed into a physical and competitive matchup. Wheeler managed to create separation before halftime, taking a comfortable 31–23 lead into the break.

Leading the charge early for the Wildcats was standout forward Colben Landrew, who scored 12 points in the first half and controlled the paint on both ends of the floor. For Pebblebrook, Donald McMillan kept his team within striking distance, pacing the Falcons with nine first-half points. But the Falcons weren’t ready to let the championship slip away without a fight.

Coming out of the locker room, Pebblebrook increased the pressure and began attacking the rim more aggressively. Alexander Jones repeatedly found ways to get to the basket, finishing with 18 points and providing a spark for the Falcons’ offense. McMillan and Anthony Moon each added 11 points as Pebblebrook attempted to chip away at Wheeler’s lead.

Every time Pebblebrook looked ready to make a serious run, however, Wheeler had an answer. That answer was Landrew. The Wheeler star took complete control of the game in the second half, dominating inside and on the glass. Landrew finished the night with a game-high 29 points and 12 rebounds, delivering a championship performance that kept the Wildcats firmly in command. Whenever momentum began to shift toward Pebblebrook, Wheeler responded with timely baskets, defensive stops, and composure beyond their years. By the final buzzer, the Wildcats had sealed a 62–52 victory and another state title.

With the win, Wheeler continues its remarkable dominance in Georgia high school basketball, capturing back-to-back state championships and five titles in the last six seasons. After the game, Wheeler head coach Larry Thompson was asked about the program’s sustained success. His answer was simple.

“There is no secret sauce,” Thompson said. “We just stay in the gym.”

And for the Wheeler Wildcats, that commitment continues to produce championship results.
