Fundora Stops Tszyu After Grueling Seventh Round

LAS VEGAS – In the MGM Grand Garden Arena on July 19, 2025, Sebastian Fundora emphatically affirmed his dominance in the 154-lb (super-welterweight) division. Standing at a towering 6’6″, the southpaw retained his WBC title by stopping Tim Tszyu when Tszyu’s corner decided he’d taken enough damage and did not answer the bell for Round 8.

Early Rounds: Fundora Sets the Tone

Right from the opening bell, Fundora showcased his reach and quickness. A powerful straight-left sent Tszyu to the canvas just over one minute into Round 1. Fundora followed up by flicking a crisp jab and a steady barrage of left hands, effectively keeping Tszyu at bay.

Second Round: Cut and Control

Fundora pounced on a visible weakness, reopening a growing cut above Tszyu’s eye in Round 2. This not only inflicted physical damage but further destabilized the Australian. Though Tszyu fought through the swelling and bleeding, Fundora maintained tactical control.

Middle Rounds: Tszyu Fights Back

Despite the early onslaught, Tszyu found his footing in Rounds 5 and 6, landing overhand rights and weaving body blows to challenge Fundora’s advance. His best moments arrived in Round 7, where he scored cleanly and even appeared to hurt the champion.

Round 7 Finale: Fundora’s Decisive Surge

In that pivotal seventh frame, Fundora weathered Tszyu’s most assertive assault. Just as Tszyu was building momentum, Fundora trapped him in the corner and unleashed a torrent of uppercuts and crisp shots. Tszyu, visibly spent and leaning on the ropes, shook his head as the bell rang.

Corner Calls Stoppage

Between rounds, referee Harvey Dock’s query to Tszyu went unanswered. His corner, citing concern for their fighter, stopped the contest. With tropical brutality, Fundora earned a technical knockout victory at the end of Round 7.
