Wide receiver Deshaun Dumas Jr. is using the offseason to separate himself from the pack, literally and figuratively. With a laser-sharp focus on speed, footwork, and technical precision, Dumas Jr is putting in the type of detailed, disciplined work that turns potential into production. For Dumas Jr, it’s not just about athleticism, it’s about becoming a complete receiver. His routine is designed to build explosive acceleration, sharp cuts, and elite-level separation at the line of scrimmage and down the field. Every drill, every rep is about preparation and precision. That kind of hunger doesn’t come from hype, it comes from commitment. While many players use the offseason to rest, Dumas is using it to reload.
Today we’d like to introduce you to Deshaun Dumas Jr.
Are you attending any camps or combines to gain exposure?
I have attended more than six camps this summer. Including Mercer’s Mega Camp and Tulane’s prospect camp. I excelled at both camps.
Who do you train with during the off-season? Do you have a mentor or trainer?
I spend most of my off-season doing speed training and perfecting my route-running. I’m not the biggest, strongest or tallest. So running precise routes and creating separation is key to my specific play-style.
How are you staying in shape during the off-season?
We have an amazing strength and conditioning coach, who is DEFINITELY keeping us in shape. No explanation needed.
What specific goals have you set for yourself before next season?
My goal is to receive over 800 yards and to catch over 5 receiving touchdowns. Also, be an All-Conference player (first, second, or HM), and to pick up more D1 offers.

Are you working on any particular skills or techniques right now?
Speed kills, so whatever I do, I can always beat somebody with my speed. Doing plyometrics, leg stability, ankle stiffening exercises, and agility workouts are my main focus for right now. And of course, I’m working on releases and getting in-and-out of my breaks.
What part of your game do you think improved most last season?
I mostly improved on my effort on making plays. Whether it was diving for a ball, pushing for an extra yard while getting tackled, or running down the field to block for my running back.
What lessons did you take away from last season?
Last year I learned that no matter how the game is going, always give each play your all. Whether you’re on the field or on the sideline.
What motivates you to keep pushing during the off-season?
The possibility of me going to college for free is the BIGGEST motivation for me right now.
How do you stay mentally sharp and focused when games aren’t being played?
I’m always learning how to get creative when running routes. I know that being too linear and tense will only decrease the amount of separation you get either off the line or top of the route. No route will ever look the same for me.
Are you watching or studying any pro or college players for inspiration?
Yes, Davante Adams for sure. Justin Jefferson, Aaron Anderson, and definitely Ceedee Lamb.
What’s your favorite part about football that keeps you coming back?
The competitiveness and the trash-talking. I love it and I desire it.
Are there any teammates you think will have a breakout season next year?
Preston Funk is another one of our receivers and corners who has a great build and is very technically sound. I feel like he will do his thing next year.
What college or post-high school football goals do you have?
My vision is to play college football while majoring in sports industries/management/business. And of course, the NFL is always in mind. I want to play for a team where I can get playing time early and expand my skills at my position.
Have you been contacted by any recruiters or started thinking about your next steps?
I currently hold offers from Bryant, Washington & Lee, Carleton, and Knox. My recruitment is still 100% open and more than likely will be until the end of the school semester.
What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
We have a new offensive scheme that I feel fits my play style perfectly. I can’t wait to get started.
