Atlanta, Georgia – Playing a nationally ranked opponent in the first game of the season can be daunting. But when everything comes together, it can also be an opportunity to make a statement. That is exactly what the North Gwinnett Bulldogs did at the Corky Kell-Dave Hunter Classic. In a matchup featuring two highly regarded programs, North Gwinnett controlled the game from the opening kickoff, overwhelming the Grayson Rams on both sides of the football and cruising to a 37-22 victory. The Bulldogs did not waste any time establishing control.

On North Gwinnett’s opening possession, quarterback Elam Rahman connected with Christian Jackson for a 7-yard touchdown pass, giving the Bulldogs an early lead. Later in the first quarter, Evan Hawkins added to the advantage with a 7-yard rushing touchdown. While the offense was finding the end zone, North Gwinnett’s defense continued to frustrate Grayson. The Bulldogs consistently forced stops and prevented the Rams from establishing any offensive rhythm. Before halftime, Rahman found Jackson for another touchdown, extending North Gwinnett’s lead to 22-0.

If Grayson entered the second half hoping to mount a comeback, those hopes were quickly erased. Early in the third quarter, Jake Godfree intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, giving the Bulldogs another defensive score and pushing the momentum even further in North Gwinnett’s favor. The play appeared to take the air out of the Rams, who struggled to regain their footing against a Bulldogs team playing with confidence on both sides of the ball. North Gwinnett continued to attack, with Rahman connecting with Hawkins for a 14-yard touchdown pass midway through the second half.

By that point, the Bulldogs had firmly established themselves as the team in control. Grayson eventually found some offensive success in the fourth quarter. Deuce Smith connected with JoJo Watts for a 63-yard touchdown pass, while Saif Bin-Wahad hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass. Smith later found Cameron Hurst for another touchdown, this one covering 30 yards.

However, the late offensive production came after North Gwinnett had already built a commanding advantage. According to the coaching staff, the Bulldogs also began rotating in their backups toward the end of the contest. The final score read 37-22, but the scoreboard did not fully tell the story of how thoroughly North Gwinnett controlled the game for much of the afternoon.

Following the impressive victory, FanVerse Sports spoke with North Gwinnett head coach Godfree about the message to his team following such a significant opening-game win. His answer showed that the Bulldogs are not interested in becoming satisfied with one performance.

“The hardest thing after a win is learning and getting better.”

Coach Godfree emphasized that the Bulldogs still have plenty of work ahead of them.

“We have to keep grinding, keep working and keep improving.”

That mindset could prove to be just as important as the victory itself. Opening the season with a dominant performance against a nationally ranked opponent will undoubtedly generate attention, but the true test for North Gwinnett will be what happens next. Can the Bulldogs maintain the same level of focus, discipline and execution throughout the season? If their performance at the Corky Kell-Dave Hunter Classic is any indication, North Gwinnett may be a team worth watching closely. The season is still young, but one thing is already clear: the Bulldogs have announced their presence.
