Resurgent Lithonia Bulldogs Storm Into Playoffs Under Coach Kevin Barnes

Lithonia, GA -The Lithonia Bulldogs are experiencing a resurgence. Under the leadership of head coach Kevin Barnes in his second year at the helm, the Bulldogs have morphed from a win-starved program into a playoff contender. Last season they finished 6-4, missing the postseason entirely.  This year, the Bulldogs have reached 8-2 with a region record of 6 -2  including a dominant 48-7 win over region rival St. Pius X Golden Lions.

The Road Back to Relevance

The Bulldog’s path to the playoffs was built on a couple key ingredients.  After years of struggles (including a 0-10 season two years ago), the program reset its expectations. The Week 4 “Team of the Week” recognition came after the Bulldogs avenged a loss to Tucker Tigers, the first win over that rival since 1992. Also, in the pivotal region clash vs. St. Pius X, Lithonia delivered a dominant performance. From behind 7-0, the Bulldogs rattled off 48 unanswered points, rushing for 432 yards and shutting out St. Pius’s passing game entirely.

Why the Playoff Berth Matters

For Lithonia, making the postseason isn’t just a trophy, it signals the program is back. The region in which the Bulldogs compete (Region 5-4A) is highly competitive; only the top four teams qualify for the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) playoffs.

With the Bulldogs on track for potentially their best season in decades, they’ve reignited community pride and alumni support, turning excitement back toward the football program.

The Lithonia Bulldogs have made a statement. From missing the playoffs in recent years to securing a region playoff-seeding run this season, the program is back on the rise. If they carry their form into the postseason, they could make noise in the GHSA bracket.
