For many young athletes, football is just a game. But for Corey Taylor Jr., it’s a platform, its a proving ground not only for his personal goals, but for the example he hopes to set for his younger siblings and peers. With his eyes locked in on becoming the starting quarterback for his junior varsity team, Corey is grinding with a clear vision and unshakable drive. It’s a mature outlook for a young man chasing his dreams, and it’s one that’s already paying off. Corey has been active this offseason, attending multiple camps and elite training events designed to sharpen his skills and elevate his game. Most recently, his team earned a spot at TheShow by NxtGn, an invite-only 7v7 tournament showcasing some of the most promising rising talent in the country. Not only did Corey’s team walk away as champions, but he was named MVP of the championship game. A reflection of his leadership abilities. While his on-field talent is developing at a rapid pace, it’s his mindset that truly sets him apart. Corey is building more than just a football resume, he is building a legacy. With every rep, he’s laying the foundation not only to become QB1, but to inspire a generation that follows behind him.
Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Taylor Jr.
How do you balance training with academics and personal life?
I pretty much commit my time to both academics and training/athletics. I understand to be successful I may not be able to play around, or have as much free time as “normal kids” (students who don’t play sports) do.
Are you attending any camps or combines to gain exposure?
Yes, I have been to many camps this offseason. Most recently TheShow by NxtGn. This was an invite only 7v7 tourney. My team won the championship. Also, along with the help of my teammates, I won the MVP of the championship game.
Who do you train with during the off-season? Do you have a mentor or trainer?
I train with Ramon Robinson, who is apart of QBlegacy. I also train with Coach Boone from QBcountrytNC.
How are you staying in shape during the off-season?
I stay in shape by working out consistently.
What specific goals have you set for yourself before next season?
My goals are to become the starting QB on the JV football team. As well as work my way to get some varsity reps at some point.
Are you working on any particular skills or techniques right now?
Yes, I am working on being very consistent with my throwing mechanics.

What part of your game do you think improved most last season?
I mostly improved my running game, in which I am a natural pocket passer.
What lessons did you take away from last season?
No matter what is thrown at you, when you’re a leader just lead and don’t let things get you off your game. Just be you.
What motivates you to keep pushing during the off-season?
What motivates me is the will and want to be the best. I want to show my little brothers and sisters it’s possible to achieve whatever you want when you strive and push yourself.
How do you stay mentally sharp and focused when games aren’t being played?
I watch a lot of film to stay sharp.
What kind of diet or nutrition plan are you following now?
I try to stay away from greasy foods.
Have you taken on a leadership role with your team during the break?
Yes, I wanted to lead by example and show that I have what it takes to lead them.
Are you watching or studying any pro or college players for inspiration?
Yes, I watch Bryce Underwood, an upcoming freshman at Michigan, and I love Pat Mahomes’ game as well. Other than that, I really watch myself. I watch myself to see what I can do to better my mechanics and play wiser.
What’s your favorite part about football that keeps you coming back?
I love the physicality of the game, and how you can go through a lot adversity within the game. Which ultimately teaches life lessons.
How do you deal with pressure and expectations from coaches or peers?
By facing it head on and showing I have what it takes. Its a lot of pressure to be elite, you have to be ready.
Are there any teammates you think will have a breakout season next year?
Yes, I am sure our starting varsity QB Jayvon Gilmore will have his best season yet.
What college or post-high school football goals do you have?
I would love to play at a Power 4 school. Whatever school presents itself to give me an opportunity to play football and get a good education would be great.
What are you most excited about for the upcoming season?
I am most excited and playing the game I love at a new school, in a new area.
