Today we’d like to introduce you to Stanley Odoms Jr.

When did you first start playing soccer, and what inspired you to pursue it?
I first started playing soccer when I was 4 years old.

Who has been your biggest influence or mentor in your soccer journey?
My biggest influence has been my dad. He has always taken time out of his day to train me, not just in the gym or on the field, but in life as well.

Was there a moment you realized you could play at a high level?
The moment I realized I could play at a high level was when I scored 10 goals at a Rec league game. I was 9 years old.

Can you walk us through a typical training day?
My training routine begins each day at 6 a.m. with a hill run, followed by breakfast and a morning session of technical soccer drills. I take time to rest and recover around midday, then proceed with an afternoon drill session. In the evening, I complete the day with a gym workout focused on upper body strength, primarily targeting the arms. On Tuesdays, I follow a similar structure, but replace the hill run with a track workout and focus on lower body strength during my gym session. Wednesdays are dedicated to power and resistance training, with sled pulls being the primary focus. For the remainder of the week, I concentrate exclusively on soccer-specific drills to refine my technique, agility, and game intelligence.

How do you mentally and physically prepare for a big match?
I mentally prepare myself by reading my Bible in silence. Then, I listening to worship music or calming music. Physically, I prepare by staying hydrated and eating pasta the night before a game. That helps me fuel up on carbohydrates, which are important for performance. I also add Liquid I.V. to my water to stay hydrated more efficiently.

What part of your game are you currently working on the most?
As a winger, I’m always working on improving my crossing accuracy, 1v1 dribbling, and decision-making in the final third. Also, I focus on tracking back defensively and making smart runs off the ball to create space.

How do you handle high-pressure moments during games?
I handle high pressure situations by trusting my training and staying calm. I try not to overthink things, so I can stay focused and get into a flow state.
